MEDIUM AND STYLE
Cutaway cross-section illustration of a building seen from the front, every room open and furnished, warm detailed interior illustration with clean outlines. Give every room its own dominant colour and wallpaper pattern so the grid of rooms becomes natural sorting zones; activities in every room.
SCENE
An intricate cutaway of an old European clockmaker's tower in winter, showcasing each floor bustling with life and detail. At the top, massive gears and bells are surrounded by pigeons perched on rafters. Below, a workshop abounds with cuckoo clocks, gears of all sizes, and an old craftsman absorbed in his work. Descending further, the cozy tea room glows warm, with patrons chatting over steaming cups. The family's living quarters are filled with an eclectic mix of furniture and warm colors suggesting daily life. On the snowy ground level, townsfolk skate joyously on a frozen square under a string of twinkly lights. Focal point: The giant gears and bells inside the clock tower at the top of the frame. Foreground: The bottom level of the tower opens onto a lively winter scene, where townsfolk wearing colorful scarves skate on a frozen square beneath glowing streetlamps. Midground: The mid-levels feature a tea room and living quarters, each room radiating warmth and comfort with various period-appropriate furnishings and decor. Background: The upper levels of the tower reveal the intricate machinery of the clock, with a backdrop of snow-covered rooftops and a twilight sky tinged with stars. Lighting: The scene is illuminated by warm indoor lights contrasting with the cool bluish tones of the snowy evening outside, making each room inviting and vibrant. Colour zones: Amber wood #c08a59 for tower wood; Brick red #b53f3f for tea room decor; Sage green #789f66 for vintage wallpaper; Golden mustard #ccac4c for initials and gears; Powdery blue #64798c for winter sky and snow; Cream #f5f4e8 for ceramic cups; Lamp glow #ffc857 for lamp glow. Small hidden details spread across different areas: A carved wooden owl; An antique teapot; A cat watching from a window; A child laughing on the skating rink; A toy painted rabbit.
FORMAT
Portrait format 3:4 (2304×3072). Vertical composition: foreground, midground and background stacked from bottom to top, with interest reaching the top edge.
PUZZLE CALIBRATION
The picture will be cut into about 165 pieces (11 columns by 15 rows). A clear focal point surrounded by many secondary details; medium-sized colour regions, each with its own texture; a recognisable object or pattern fragment in every piece-sized area.
PUZZLE CRAFT (house rules)
Original artwork made to be printed and cut into a premium jigsaw puzzle. Edge-to-edge composition: the scene fills the whole canvas, corners and borders included, with real content in all four corners because players start with the edge pieces. Even distribution of interest: there is something to recognise in every area of the picture, with no large empty or uniform zone (no plain sky, flat water, blank wall or smooth gradient covering more than a small part of the image). Clear colour zoning: five to eight distinct colour families laid out in readable regions, so players can sort pieces into piles by colour. Inside each colour region, varied textures and small details (brick, foliage, fabric, ripples, patterns) so two pieces of the same colour still look different. Full tonal range with strong local contrast between neighbouring shapes; deep shadows keep detail and highlights never blow out. Everything in sharp focus from the foreground to the horizon: no depth-of-field blur, no bokeh, no motion blur, no haze or fog veils. Rich, saturated but print-safe colour, balanced warm and cool tones, even lighting that keeps every area legible. Layered depth: a detailed foreground, a lively midground and a structured background stacked through the frame. Small hidden stories and discoverable details spread across the canvas, rewarding a close look.
